Ballarat Whippet owners began meeting at the Wendouree Off Leash Dog Park and subsequently organised regular whippet round ups there, on the second Tuesday of the month, during daylight saving months, where the whippets enjoy zoomies and social time, whilst their humans get to meet and talk all things whippet, as they accompany their dogs. The record number of whippets attending is 17!
Other breeds of sighthounds are made equally welcome at the Whippet get togethers and include lurchers, greyhounds and even borzois!
In May, Ballarat's whippets and sighthounds participated in the World Wide Whippet Walk, with over 40 dogs participating in a walk around Lake Wendouree
The group has also been lucky enough to have a local photographer Steve Barnes of Four Feet Fotos, come on board to record Ballarat's whippets and their families, with a number of whippets enjoying photoshoots for portraits, at the Dog Park and beyond. A Whippet Calendar, featuring Ballarat whippets, will be a wonderful outcome of Steve's regular involvement with the group.
The growth of interaction between Ballarat's whippet owners has also been supported by the 'Whippets of Ballarat' and 'Wendouree Dog Squad' Facebook Pages.
