Bath Time for a "Good Boy"!

Ballarat Mobile Dog Wash was the answer to both canine and human dreams recently, here at Pets and Plants.

Like most dogs, Whippet Boy loves to roll in unsavoury delights and turn himself green, rollicking in damp, newly cut grass. It had been a while since I last treated him to the joy of a bath and I decided to indulge him with a lovely, warm hydro bath, in the highly gentle and skilled hands of Cullen Hodge.

Ballarat Mobile Dog Wash, is in fact, the family business of my dear friends Warren and Lorraine Hodge and more recently, Cullen, their son, has come on board to meet the increasing demands for mobile pet grooming services, which includes clipping and grooming.

I hung around with the camera to capture the occasion and the resultant photos affirm "every good boy", (or girl), deserves the pampering that is provided by a professional and dedicated dog groomer, like Cullen or Warren Hodge. Whippet Boy seemed a truly pampered pet throughout the experience and Cullen spoke with genuine affection for his regular canine clients in particular, as well as to Whippet Boy, throughout his hydrobath, manicure, and drying.

Whippet Boy was so relaxed throughout and Cullen was quick to gently, but firmly, reassure him, when unfamiliar noises of the water pump and dryer were switched on.

Inside the van is safe, secure and comfortable for canine clients and products are  carefully selected for dogs with sensitive skin.

Whippet Boy certainly smelt and felt gorgeous and seemed to hold himself like the show boy that he was born to be, when we took our daily constitutional around the neighbourhood, shortly afterwards!

If you are short on time, or find bathing a large, or even small dog demanding, treat your dog to the joy of a hydro bath. Of course you can "do it yourself", especially with dogs as sleek coated as a whippet. However a doggie manicure or clip, is best left to skilled hands and is all part of the regular service. They will even worm your dog, if you wish and a preventative flea rinse is part of the deal!

I can vouch for the care, reliability and gentle hands of the Hodge groomers with your dogs. I have witnessed their love and devotion to their own dogs, including some lovely German Shepherds and a couple of Jack Russells, especially with a very special girl, with three legs, who was part of their family for many years. I recommend them to you highly.

If you live outside Ballarat, there are mobile grooming services in many areas. Use your intuition and watch how the groomer interacts with your dog. Fortunately the service tends to attract genuine dog whisperers like Warren and Cullen, but be wary of a groomer who wants to rush, or is rough or careless with your animal. A good handler will be skilled in reassuring wary dogs and do their best to make a bath at least as pleasurable, for your dog, as rolling in the proverbial. Check how many appointments they get through in a day. Too many should set alarm bells ringing with a mobile service.

One thing I can confirm is that Whippet Boy will welcome back Cullen, with a cuddle and a kiss, next time the red trailer pulls into our driveway!
